The short version

  • ✓You're 13 or older. Younger users need a parent or guardian.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Using FoodGenie means you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We'll give you 30 days' notice before any material changes take effect.

By accessing or using FoodGenie, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. We reserve the right to update these Terms and will provide 30 days' advance notice of material changes via email and in-app banner.

3. Your Account

You need to be at least 13 to sign up. Keep your password safe — you're responsible for what happens under your account. Report anything suspicious to security@foodgenie.app.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Report any unauthorized use to security@foodgenie.app immediately.

4. Your Content

Your recipes and data are yours. We need a limited license to store and show them to you, but we don't claim ownership. You can delete everything from Settings.

You retain ownership of content you submit to FoodGenie, including recipes, inventory data, and household information. By submitting content, you grant us a limited license to store and display it to provide the service. Parsed data derived from your content (structured ingredients, normalized quantities) is owned by FoodGenie.

5. AI & the Genie

The Genie is smart but not infallible — don't rely on it for medical, allergen, or safety decisions. We don't use your data to train third-party AI models.

FoodGenie uses AI to parse recipes, suggest substitutions, and power the Genie assistant. AI-generated content may contain errors. We do not use your personal data to train third-party AI models, and our agreements with LLM providers explicitly prohibit training on your data. Do not rely on AI outputs for medical, dietary, or allergen decisions.

6. Acceptable Use

Use FoodGenie for cooking — not for scraping, spam, or anything illegal. Don't try to break the service or mislead other users.

You may not use FoodGenie to violate any laws, infringe intellectual property rights, distribute malware, scrape our data outside the published API, reverse-engineer the service, harass other users through corrections or household features, inject adversarial prompts into the Genie, or submit falsified allergen data.

7. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy covers what we collect, why, and how you can control it. It's part of these Terms — please read it.

Your use of FoodGenie is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. The Privacy Policy covers the categories of personal data we collect, our legal bases for processing, sub-processor disclosures, and your GDPR/CCPA rights.

8. Beta Service

We're still building. The service is provided without warranty, and we may change or pause features during beta. We'll do our best to keep things running smoothly.

9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

FoodGenie is provided as-is. We're not responsible for indirect damages, and our liability is capped. Please don't try sharp knives over a lit stove while using the Genie.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FOODGENIE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY. FOODGENIE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE FEES YOU PAID IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR $100.

10. Termination

You can delete your account any time from Settings — no support ticket required. We may suspend accounts for clear violations, but we'll give you a 14-day cure window where practical.
