Store in a cool, dark place. Coconut oil solidifies below ~76°F (24°C) and liquefies when warm—both states are normal and do not affect quality. Unopened jars last 2–3 years; opened jars keep about 1 year if stored properly.
Cooking Tips
Use refined coconut oil for cooking if you want neutral flavor; virgin oil adds coconut taste.
Warm coconut oil gently before measuring if it's solidified—it won't blend into cold batters easily.
For sautéing, coconut oil works well up to about 350°F (175°C) for virgin oil and higher for refined varieties.
In baking, coconut oil can replace butter 1:1 by weight for a dairy-free option.
Common Mistakes
Confusing the solid state at room temperature with rancidity—it's normal.
Using virgin coconut oil for high-heat cooking; refined varieties have a higher smoke point.
Not accounting for coconut flavor when substituting into recipes that don't expect it.
