Store in an airtight container at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Beans may develop a white frost (vanilla crystals) over time—this is normal and doesn't indicate spoilage. Keep away from heat and humidity.
Cooking Tips
To release flavor, split the pod lengthwise and scrape out the tiny black seeds with the back of a knife.
Infuse the whole pod or seeds in warm liquids (cream, milk, simple syrup) for 10–30 minutes before using.
Save spent pods in sugar to make vanilla sugar, or steep in alcohol to make homemade vanilla extract.
Look for pods that are plump and aromatic, not dried, shriveled, or brittle.

Common Mistakes
Using beans that are too old or brittle—they won't release flavor effectively.
Not splitting or scraping the pod; the seeds inside hold most of the flavor.
Overcooking or boiling infusions, which can degrade vanilla's delicate aromatics.
Confusing vanilla bean with vanilla extract or powder, which are processed and more concentrated.
