Unopened jars keep for 1–2 years in a cool, dark pantry. Once opened, store in the fridge and use within 3–4 weeks. Check the jar's best-by date. Homemade preserves without proper canning may keep only 2–3 weeks in the fridge.
Cooking Tips
Stir well before using—fruit and sugar can separate over time.
If preserves are too thick, warm gently and stir in a splash of water.
Use a clean spoon each time you scoop to prevent mold and spoilage.
Seedless raspberry jam is a smoother alternative if you dislike seeds.
Pairs With
Buttered toast and croissants
Whipped cream and vanilla yogurt
Almond, hazelnut, and walnut butters
Soft cheese (ricotta, mascarpone, cream cheese)
Baked goods: thumbprint cookies, layer cakes, jam tarts
Duck and pork dishes (as a glaze or sauce)
Common Mistakes
Using expired or improperly stored preserves; discard if you see mold, unusual odor, or fermentation.
Not stirring before use, leading to a watery spoonful.
Spreading cold preserves straight from the fridge onto delicate pastries—they may tear. Warm gently first if needed.
