Store whole honeydew at room temperature until ripe (yields slightly to pressure), then refrigerate. Once cut, cover and refrigerate; use within 3–5 days. Freezing is not recommended for whole or cut melon due to texture loss.
Nutrition
High water content (~90%). Good source of vitamin C and potassium.
Cooking Tips
Choose a honeydew with a waxy, cream-colored rind and no soft spots.
A ripe melon will be slightly fragrant and feel heavy for its size.
Cut in half, scoop out seeds, then slice or cube. Chill before serving for best flavor.
Honeydew pairs well with prosciutto, lime, mint, and other light, refreshing flavors.
Pairs With
Prosciutto (classic savory-sweet combo)
Lime juice and fresh mint
Ricotta and honey
Light vinaigrettes and greens (in salads)
Common Mistakes
Picking an unripe melon (pale green rind, no aroma). Choose one closer to harvest with a golden undertone.
Cutting too early. Honeydew does not continue to ripen after harvest; choose a ripe one before cutting.
Storing next to strong-smelling foods. Melon absorbs odors easily.
