Once ripe, store whole in the fridge for up to a week. Cut honeydew should be wrapped tightly and used within 3–4 days
Freezing is not recommended; texture becomes mushy when thawed
Keep whole honeydew at room temperature until ripe (3–5 days depending on ripeness when purchased)
Cooking Tips
A ripe honeydew yields slightly to pressure at the stem end and smells sweet and fragrant
Slice just before serving to preserve flavor and texture
Honeydew pairs well with prosciutto, lime, mint, and other melons in fruit salads
Scoop out seeds with a spoon or melon baller for cleaner presentation
Common Mistakes
Buying underripe honeydew and eating it immediately—allow 2–3 days at room temperature for sweetness to develop
Storing cut honeydew uncovered in the fridge, which causes it to dry out and absorb other odors
Cutting into the melon too early; cut just before eating for best flavor
