After opening, refrigerate and use within 1–2 months. Stir well before each use as separation may occur.
Store in a cool, dark pantry. Most commercial chocolate syrups are shelf-stable unopened for 1–2 years.
Cooking Tips
Warm gently in the microwave (10–15 seconds) or in warm water before using if the syrup is thick or has separated.
Stir well before measuring to ensure even texture and flavor distribution.
Use in milk, yogurt, ice cream, cakes, brownies, and whipped cream for instant chocolate flavor.
For a homemade version, combine cocoa powder, sugar, water, and a pinch of salt; simmer until smooth and glossy.
Pairs With
Milk (hot or cold)
Ice cream and frozen desserts
Whipped cream
Brownies, cakes, and cookies
Bananas and strawberries
Pancakes and waffles
Common Mistakes
Not stirring well before use—cocoa solids can settle at the bottom.
Using cold syrup straight from the fridge on hot milk; it may not blend smoothly. Warm it first.
Confusing chocolate syrup with chocolate sauce (syrup is thinner and pourable; sauce is thicker and clingier).
